Mary “Jo” Mitchell, 66, of Indianapolis passed away on July 20th, 2019 with her family by her side.  Jo was born to the late C. Wayne & Lucille B. Hill, August 6, 1952 in Jackson, MI.  On February 8, 1975 she was united in marriage to Michael Mitchell.

Jo is survived by her husband Mike, daughter Katie Rouzer, sister Cynthia Abel, sister Pam Copenhaver, brother Rick Hill, step mother Joyce Hill, seven loving grandchildren and numerous extended family members.   Her daughter, Erin Harris, preceded her in death.

Jo was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She was happiest when spending time with others.  Jo was a spiritual women and enjoyed small group and Bible study with her friends. Some of her favorite activities included volunteering at her grandsons’ elementary school, catching up with cocktail club and Friday afternoon lunch with her sisters.

People were drawn to Jo’s empathetic heart, great sense of humor and ability to have a fabulous time.  She was most known for her head back, contagious laughter that always filled the entire room.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W Moore Chapel. Friends may visit and share memories of Jo with her family beginning at 11 a.m. until service time. She will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens after the service.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. LYMI

    Praying for comfort and strength for family and friends. So many fond memories she made with you. Jo was an inspiration to many of us. She had a smile and laugh that just made your day that much better. She was always ready to help others. No more suffering. It was a privilege to know her and call her my friend.

    She was a wonderful sister—- always laughing and ready for fun. She never complained during her years of chemo and surgery. She had a relationship with Jesus and lives with Him today. She is also with her beloved Erin and our parents. I’ll see her again. Until then, she I missed on this earth.

    Jo, you were a treasured friend for many years, and we have shared so many wonderful, laughter-filled times! I will always remember your warm heart and open arms. I have admired you for so many reasons, especially the strength and positivity you exemplified over the last five+ years. Memories of fun times shared during book club, meeting for dinner, and attending Les Miserable and Christkindlemarkt, will remain in my heart. Deepest sympathy, love and prayers to Mike and the family.
